Home Department legalization means getting a stamp from the Home Department of respective state government where the documents have been issued & it is the legalization procedure to be followed to prove your documents are genuine. Birth Certificate and Marriage certificate attestation and all other personal document verification are carried out under the purview of the Home Department.There is also another alternate process through called as SDM Attestation.
Notary / SDM Attestation
Attestation by Notary in India is a basic level that is necessary at lower levels for general authentication of documents. It is obtained from the Notary Public. It is also the initial and mandatory form of legalization when it comes to attesting the documents for foreign travel or business purposes. It is done mostly on all types of documents i.e. Personal, Educational & Commercial. It prepares the documents to be attested for further process / authorities like HRD or Home Department, SDM, MEA, or Embassy.
Notary Attestation:
Attestation by a notary is the first step. It is done before getting the certification from the Sub-Divisional Magistrate.
SDM Attestation:
It is performed once the notary attestation is done.
